Job Summary:

Responsible for leading implementation of sustainability projects, focused on packaging and regulatory updates, as part of the Shiseido’s sustainability and regulation roadmap. Responsible for sharing latest packaging sustainability trends and packaging regulations with the team to ensure that core catalog and new products launches are in compliance with regulatory requirements and company guidelines.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Stay current with industry sustainability trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory requirements to ensure that Shiseido remains at the forefront of packaging innovation and sustainability.
  • Collaborate with the Packaging Team on sustainability initiatives related to packaging, exploring and implementing eco-friendly packaging solutions.
  • Lead overall project team activities. This includes development of clear project objectives, managing & tracking timelines & critical milestones, establishing contingency & acceleration plans, facilitating team decisions and issue resolution, risk management and coordinating team meetings and minutes.
  • Coordinate the seamless integration between all Operational, R&D, Marketing & S&OP processes and functions involved in developing and phasing in required sustainability/regulatory product updates.
  • Lead COGS assessments at different stages of the project.
  • Provide regular updates to stakeholders and leadership on packaging innovation progress, challenges, and opportunities.                                                                       

Working Relationships/Key Stakeholders:

  • Brand: Marketing, Product Development, Finance & Sales
  • Operations: Packaging Engineering, NPC-New Product Commercialization, S&OP, Quality, Production/Fillers (Internal & External), Procurement & Finance
  • R&D: Formulation and Regulatory

Qualifications & Competencies:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Packaging Engineering, or other business position related to improving the sustainability profile for packaging and/or packaging regulatory updates, preferably for CPG industry or Beauty.
  • Strong understanding of packaging materials, processes and technologies.
  • Excellent project management skills, with the ability to lead multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements and standards related to packaging sustainability (APR/Recyclass) and regulatory compliance.
  • Understanding of new product development processes & stage gate approach
  • Exposure to production environment & interaction of packaging, process, manufacturing.
  • Excellent communication, planning, and organizational skills.
  • Work well with cross-functional teams and take a leadership role within the team.
  • Able to quickly analyze data and information from different places and put it together into a project plan
  • Must be organized and detail oriented
  • Able to work independently in fast moving/changing environment
  • Comfortable interfacing with all management levels within Operations, R&D and Brand.
  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and MS Project.
