Drunk Elephant is named for the woozy way elephants walk after they eat fermented Marula beans. In other words, this is not a brand that takes itself all that seriously. Our approach to skin and haircare, however, is another story. We are committed to using only ingredients that either directly benefit the health of the skin or support the integrity of our formulations. We focus on healthy pH levels, formulations the skin recognizes, small molecular structure that’s easily absorbed, and effective active ingredients that also support the skin’s acid mantle. And we do it all with a touch of irreverence. And fun.
We also believe that what we leave out of our products is just as important as what we put in, so you will never find what we call the Suspicious 6 (essential oils, drying alcohols, silicones, chemical sunscreens, fragrances/dyes, SLS) in our line. We believe that these 6 ubiquitous ingredients are at the root of almost every skin issue, and when they’re removed entirely from your routine, skin can reset to its happiest, healthiest state.
"We think of Drunk Elephant as an ingredient-elimination philosophy for a total skin reset.”
About Brand
We remain steadfast in our belief that skin is skin. And the very best way we have found to treat it, regardless of any issue, is to take a #drunkbreak by eliminating the Suspicious 6 from your routine. That’s what we mean by an ingredient-elimination diet for the skin. Our belief is that the key to healthier-acting skin is to avoid those 6 categories of disruptive (or inflammation-promoting) ingredients that we suspect are at the root of some of the most common issues we see. The ultra-nourishing, biocompatible ingredients we use maintain the skin’s balance while supporting skin’s biggest defender, the acid mantle.
