JOB SUMMARY
The Senior Toxicologist serves as a subject-matter expert supporting the Innovation Center’s business strategies and product development for global brands such as NARS, Drunk Elephant, Doctor Dennis Gross, and other Shiseido-owned brands, including contract manufacturing projects. This role is responsible for safety and microbiological assessment, providing technical expertise and guidance throughout the product lifecycle. The position requires strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with internal R&D teams, the Global Innovation Center in Japan, and cross-functional partners
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- You will conduct safety assessments for raw ingredients and finished formulations, interpreting toxicological and microbiological data to support product development and innovation.
- You will provide scientific and technical due diligence for business development, ensuring compliance with safety standards and regulatory requirements.
- You will analyze and interpret data to make timely technical decisions in collaboration with management and project teams.
- You will prepare and organize materials for Cosmetic Product Safety Reports and official Q&A on safety and microbiological matters.
- You will operate toxicological and microbiological testing as needed, evaluating the impact of study results on project milestones and strategy.
- You will review and evaluate safety-related consumer complaints, post-market surveillance, and launch monitoring data.
- You will manage documentation for safety-related issues, including post-marketing surveillance.
- You will collaborate with global teams to ensure the safety of raw materials and formulations.
- You will develop and organize databases and information resources as needed.
- You will mentor colleagues by sharing expertise and supporting their professional development.
WHO YOU ARE
- You have 5–7 years of experience in toxicity and safety assurance for cosmetics and personal care products.
- You have an advanced degree (MS/PhD) in toxicology or related discipline, or relevant certifications (DABT, ERT).
- You have demonstrated expertise in interpreting toxicology data and awareness of global cosmetic regulations.
- You have strong organizational and project management skills.
- You have excellent collaboration and communication abilities in a global, multicultural environment.
- You can work independently, handle complex issues, and solve problems with general guidance.
- You are proficient in computational tools (e.g., MS Word, Excel).

The base pay for this position may vary based on geographic location. Actual base pay offered will be based on several factors including job-specific knowledge, education, skills, and depth of experience. In addition to base pay, we may offer additional forms of compensation as components of a total compensation package, including participation in our bonus program which features the ability to overachieve, in addition to a full range of competitive benefits.
