Engineer, Color Process (MatchCo)

We are looking for a hands-on entrepreneurial Color Process Engineer to work with Engineering, QC, Manufacturing, and Shiseido Brands to develop and improve color-match capability of existing and new proprietary technology relating to custom color cosmetics.

This is a hands-on and technical role that has the potential to make significant contributions to the company's mission and objectives.

What you will do?

  • Design and implement standardized color management processes and techniques across Shiseido brands and projects
  • Own and improve color match results for all custom cosmetic products
  • Compile and analyze data along with customer and internal groups' feedback to inform core tech advancements, and new customer-facing updates
  • Work with Engineering, Product Development, R&D, and Manufacturing to develop and maintain new procedures around color measurement
  • Manage project deliverables and schedules to meet commitments to product development and manufacturing teams.
  • Assist Engineers and Product Development teams on projects for product improvement, customer troubleshooting, and process optimization, including collecting, analyzing, and plotting data, as well as preparing written reports.
  • Manage multiple projects, being responsible for ensuring that deliverables, schedules, and budgets are achieved
  • Design, oversee, and run in-person test sessions
  • Organize and catalog extensive sets of raw ingredients, parts, and test samples
  • Evaluate test results and recognize abnormal values according to protocols
  • Use various spectrometers and color measurement equipment to read color characteristics of cosmetic product samples
  • Compile and analyze datasets and provide written reports
  • Develop and manage a network of local models available for cosmetics testing
  • Operate high-end color measurement devices and photography and lighting equipment


  • Bachelor's degree and 3+ years relevant experience and/or Master of Fine Arts, or related discipline and 1+ years experience
  • Background in color theory and fine arts preferred
  • Computer skills: Excel
  • A proven self-starter with a track record of successfully completed projects
  • Excellent technical writing and English communication skills
  • Preferred: Experience in cosmetic industry or makeup artistry
  • Team player with strong problem-solving ability
  • This position may require up to 10% domestic travel.
